Mission Raniganj Movie Review: Akshay Kumar is Fantastic in This Extraordinary Story

Mission Raniganj Movie Review: Mission Raniganj not only highlights heroism but also exposes corruption within the system.

Mission Raniganj: The Great Bharat Rescue showcases Akshay Kumar’s dedication to portraying real-life heroes and their extraordinary acts. In this film, he steps into the shoes of Jaswant Singh Gill, the Additional Chief Mining Engineer at Coal India, who embarked on a heroic mission to save 70 trapped miners in 1989.

Kumar’s performance as Gill is sincere and convincing, but the storytelling falls short in fully capturing the essence of the plot. Director Tinu Suresh Desai’s screenplay keeps the audience engaged with its hard-hitting moments, but occasionally, the focus on Kumar’s character overshadows the miners’ ordeal, leaving room for more exploration of the supporting cast.

The film’s runtime of 2 hours and 18 minutes is well-paced, but the first half is bogged down by technical jargon and machinery details. It’s only in the second half that the story gains momentum and effectively conveys the tension experienced by the trapped miners. Kumar’s ability to inject humor into intense scenes is commendable.

As Gill, Kumar portrays a fearless rescue operation officer who makes tough decisions with unwavering calm. However, the film doesn’t delve deep into Gill’s personal life, aside from his relationship with his supportive wife, Nirdosh Kaur Gill, played by Parineeti Chopra.

Mission Raniganj not only highlights heroism but also exposes corruption within the system. Performances by Kumud Mishra as R.J. Ujjwal and Pavan Malhotra as Bindal stand out, as do the earnest portrayals of the terrified miners by Ravi Kishan, Varun Badola, and Jameel Khan.

The film ultimately leaves viewers with a sense of pride and admiration for heroes like Gill. Still, there’s a longing for a more profound exploration of the human aspects of the story. Despite its flaws, Mission Raniganj succeeds in honoring the valiant efforts of its central character and shedding light on the challenges he faced in his heroic mission.
